A few years back one of my family’s cats sauntered into the house with his eye swollen shut and a piece of grass sticking out of it. I was all alone in the house and had no car, since my family was gone camping. Luckily I was able to call a vet friend to take me to the emergency clinic to get the foreign body removed. When we stained his eye to check for corneal ulceration, almost the entire surface of the cornea had been scratched. Poor Butterfinger! The last picture shows how big that piece of grass was. Luckily he healed well with topical antibiotics and some pain medication.
I’ve never been a big ophthalmology fan, and I have recently been dealing with some indolent corneal ulcers at work. Ugh! I hate them! And the owners never want you to keep staining the eye to check on its progress, either…
